Tsavo East Safari Guide
The larger, flatter half of Tsavo — vast open plains, the Galana River, and Lugard Falls, with excellent dry-season elephant and lion concentrations.
Top Highlights
Tsavo East is the larger and more open of the two Tsavo parks — a vast, flat landscape of red-earth plains and scattered scrubland bisected by the life-giving Galana River. During the dry season, the river and its tributaries draw enormous concentrations of elephants, buffalo, lions, and hippos to its banks.
Lugard Falls, where the Galana River is forced through a series of sculpted rock formations, is one of Tsavo's most scenic spots. The park's open terrain makes for excellent game viewing from a distance, with the red-dusted elephants visible from miles away against the dusty plains.
