Safari Day
Your safari begins with a morning drive from Moshi, the landscape shifting from bustling streets to the lush green foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. At Materuni Waterfalls, the path leads through dense coffee and banana groves, the roar of falling water growing louder with each step. A local guide shares stories of the Chagga people as you walk, pausing to spot a Hartlaub’s turaco flashing crimson in the canopy above. You enjoy a packed lunch by the pool at the base of the 80-meter cascade, the cool mist a relief from the tropical heat. After lunch, you visit a nearby Chagga homestead for a cultural visit, learning how they ferment banana beer and roast coffee beans over an open fire. Birding along the return trail reveals a white-eyed slaty flycatcher and the electric blue of a malachite kingfisher near the stream. As evening falls, you return to your lodge on the slopes, the scent of wet earth and wildflowers lingering in the air or you may be dropped at the airport which ends our tour package.
