South Africa
Best for first-time Africa visitors — world-class infrastructure, malaria-free Cape region, and extraordinary diversity in one country.

Always do the safari portion first. After the physical activity and early mornings of game drives, the beach provides ideal recovery. Reversing the order often leaves guests wishing they'd extended their beach time.
East Africa's long rains (March–May) and short rains (November) can affect both safari and beach quality. The dry season (June–October) is ideal for wildlife but can be overcast on the coast. Plan the beach for shoulder season.
Internal charter flights between safari and beach add $300–$800 per person but save enormous time. The overland alternative for Tanzania (12+ hours) is rarely worth it when on a 2-week itinerary.
Most prime safari destinations require malaria prophylaxis. The Cape region of South Africa is malaria-free year-round, making it ideal for families or those concerned about medication.
Safari temperatures in the evening can drop to 5–15°C in the dry season; coastal humidity means lighter clothing. Pack neutral safari tones (khaki, olive) plus beach wear — your bags will be pre-weighed for charter flights.
Premium safari lodges and boutique beach resorts in peak season (July–October) book out 6–12 months ahead. Budget safari months (November–April) have more availability.
